Peter C. Stein is the founding partner and president of Stein & Stein, P.C. As a young man, Mr. Stein was determined to become a lawyer in order to provide aggressive, dedicated assistance to individuals and businesses in need of legal counsel. In part, this dedication came from his own personal interactions with the law.

As the victim of a school bus accident as a small boy and one who was mistreated by police as a teenager, Mr. Stein poignantly experienced the helplessness many feel when confronted with the desperate need for competent legal advice and zealous legal representation. Based upon these experiences, Mr. Stein has devoted his life to becoming the very attorney he himself needed years ago, and is committed to providing nothing short of top-notch legal counsel to others.

Mr. Stein graduated Sachem High School in 1983. In order to secure the funds necessary to achieving his academic aims, Mr. Stein worked a variety of jobs for half a decade, also thereby gaining a degree of real-world experience. Specifically, during that time frame, Mr. Stein worked as a gas station attendant; a meat truck driver; and was a member of the Queens Local 3 Electrical Workers’ Union, through which he worked at a wiring factory in Melville.

In 1988, Mr. Stein was accepted to Boston College, from which he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance in 1991. After graduation from college, Mr. Stein secured a position as a paralegal with the law firm of Pryor Cashman on Park Avenue in Manhattan, where he worked for two years before beginning law school.

Mr. Stein received his Juris Doctorate from Brooklyn Law School in 1996. Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Stein was appointed to the position of Assistant District Attorney with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. He began his tenure in that position in August 1996. As a Brooklyn A.D.A., Mr. Stein gained extensive courtroom experience prosecuting thousands of criminal cases involving larceny, domestic violence, sex crimes, assault, narcotics and a wide range of other charges.

In 1998, Mr. Stein entered private practice as an associate attorney with the law firm of Weinstein, Kaplan & Cohen in Garden City. In that capacity, Mr. Stein added breadth to his repertoire of legal experience. In particular, Mr. Stein represented banks during real estate closings; businesses and corporations in cases of civil and commercial litigation, including collections cases; and individuals in matrimonial actions.

In 1999, Mr. Stein relocated to Suffolk County and became associated with the Law Office of Peter Gierer in Hauppauge. With that office, Mr. Stein represented hundreds of clients in complex civil and commercial litigation cases, landlord-tenant disputes, estate practice and litigation matters, and defended individuals against criminal and traffic prosecutions.

In January 2001, Mr. Stein’s wealth of legal experience now allowed for the realization of his long-term goal: He opened the doors to own his law practice. The practice grew exponentially through referrals by existing clients and, in June 2007, Mr. Stein was joined in the practice by his wife, Kathryn E. Stein, Esq.

To date, the law firm of Stein & Stein has successfully represented thousands of clients in a wide variety of matters in Suffolk and Nassau Counties and New York City. Mr. Stein is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Suffolk County Criminal Bar Association and the New York Defender’s Association. He is admitted to the practice of law in all State Courts in New York, as well as the Southern and Eastern Districts of Federal Court.
